Reading Homework
Hopefully, you have been seeing your child bringing home a reading passage with questions to answer each week night. We go over these assignment each day and they are for a grade. I take all the passages for the week and average them for one complete grade. Each time they receive and A they put a sticker on a class chart that leads to a prize. We will be doing the passages until the first reading TAKS test. (March 5th)
Please, let me encourage you to review it with them. I would prefer you have them complete it first, and then go over it with them. They should be able to read it silently and answer the questions. They also should be proving their answers. Basically, this is teaching them to go back and underline where they have found their answer. They also know to mark which paragraph they found it in next to the question. In other words, proving they found the right answer.
With your each of us working together, I know that our kids can achieve great success!

Crayfish Galore!

Well, Our friendly pet spider (Triple H) now has twelve new friends, though, not in the same cage. Yes, it is true! We had twelve live crayfish delivered to our classroom today! It was a blast! We are studying them in Science. And in case you are wondering, no we are not planning to boil them and eat them.
Today, the students observed the eyes, mouth, nose, legs, color, snappers, and antenneas. They also learned how to properly hold a crayfish. Many were very timid at first. But, most ended up holding one. I had several boys screaming like girls! That was quite funny. I think the kids are going to learn a lot about them over the next several weeks. And hey, before you know it... you may have one as a pet! Hey, they have to go somewhere!

Six Flags Reading Club
Today the kids were challenged to read and record six hours worth of reading. Once they have read any given amount of time such as 10 minutes or more they should have the form they received today signed by their parent or a teacher. Several days a week we do read in class silently. They are aloud to count that time towards their 6 hours. If they turn their form in signed they will receive a free ticket to Six Flags Over Texas! Wow! That is an easy $50.00 worth just for reading! I hope you will encourage you child to participate!
